Welcome to the online home of French-to-English literary translator
Allison M. Charette!
My primary work is translating fiction from Madagascar into English.
Besides that, I work on fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, children's literature, comic books, and graphic novels
from all over the Francophone world.
I also edit, proofread, and localize (to US English) translated texts from a variety of fields.
I helped to found the Emerging Literary Translators' Network in America
and the ALTA Emerging Translator Mentorship Program.
In 2018, I received an NEA Fellowship in Literary Translation to work on Michèle Rakotoson's novel, Lalana.
I am available to visit college and high school classes, as well as give public talks,
both on literature from Madagascar and on the general practices and industry of literary translation.
